The Great France Road Trip: part 2

Bordeaux

I'll make this post quick and add in a a few of pictures.  Bordeaux was really lovely, and there are a number of appelations (regions of vineyards) all around the area. We went along to the little town of Saint Emillion, wandered around the streets of the town, took a a tour through the vineyards and went to a tasting with Pascal at Chateau Champion. This was interesting seeing as he only spoke French (even though it said English too on the brochure).  Now ask me to talk about numbers, colours, months, places in the town, clothes, music, television, film or food and I can hold my own. What I don't have a great grasp of is vocabulary to do with wine cultivation and tasting (I don't know that my English vocabulary about these things is that crash hot either) . So with some explaining on Pascal's part and my relaying the best I could to Glen, we made it.  And it was only us and Pascal, so he did quite a bit of talking!

The wine was nice, very nice. But I have no idea really what I'm tasting, and what consitutes a 'bon gout' and a not so 'bon gout'. If we'd thought of it earlier, I reckon booking in to do a wine tasting class would have been the go...shoulda, woulda, coulda... nevermind.  In the end we took home to lovely bottles, which I will have to drink as Glen's alcoholic palette is refined only to beer. I will savour them.

Have a look...
