Sunday Funday in Brighton
9:41 PM Edit This 2 Comments »It creeps in around my neck; cold icy fingers, encircle my throat, my ears and nose sting with the cold burn. Never have I felt such such a force commanding my whole being. Sharp pincer teeth break the skin on my neck and..... Completely, off track. I was really only trying to think of a fancy way to tell you all that I'M COLD. It then proceeded into a completely irrelevant attempt to outdo Stephenie Meyer and her vampire fiction masterpieces. All that aside, we have heavy coats, scarves, boots and lots of layers to keep us fairly warm when we venture outside, and I have not seen any vampires, he he.
We arrived on Friday, at our accomodation. Caught the train from Gatwick, easy as pie, and then taxi to the unit. We are in Hove, in a street that runs vertical to the sea front. So, if you open a widow (brief as it must be - those cold icy hands...) you can hear the seagulls. It sounds very beachy. On Saturday we got up early and went for a walk, run along the beachfront. It was cold, dark and windy, and for a while I thought we were the only fools out exercising, what relief to see three other die hard athletes out there pumping the pavement too. Sunday's run was far more pleasant; bright blue sky, still cold, but a gazillion more runners.
| Fish and chips for lunch. No sand on the beach! |
Afterwards we headed down to the town centre of Brighton just before lunch and thought we should have seaside fish and chips while the weather still allowed it. So with two little trays of greasey battered fish and chips we wadded through the stones of the beach to sit on a 'stone' dune and enjoy or lunch. I didn't mind it, the warm fish defrosted my icy fingers somewhat and warmed the belly. Glen, however, muttered a number of things about how it didn't compare to home and that it left him hungry. He he, poor dear.
We then did a spot of shopping, which, may I add, is very, very good. Glen got a new wollen double breasted coat and some boots - out with the bulky and fleecy Aussie Ripcurl jumper and sneakers. He does look quite the part now. I picked up a thick brown coat for about $80 AUD, which I thought was quite good given the quality.
Today (Monday) was chore day, we opened up a bank account (that most impressively includes the perks of full international travel insurance, roadside assistance and life insurance, woowee). We then headed off to get mobile phones organised. No fuss for me, new sim card, new number, but my old phone is as good as gold. Glen's getting a newie - spoilt, I may just take his old iPhone before the month's out.
Tomorrow is our first meeting with the job agency. We'll keep you posted and let you know how it goes.
Near future plans? We're thinking of shuffling off to Bath for a day or two. Lonely Planet touts it as the one town to visit if you go beyond London. Old Roman baths, scenes from Jane Austen's teledramas, museums, a circus and other exciting things to be had. Well that's the plan...
Bye for now :)

Lovely photos so far Stace & Glen! Am I correct in thinking that the contraption your high tea was served on in Dubai is modelled on the appearance of the hotel building its self? Coats look great - you don't look like tourists at all!
Enjoy!

Mill.
I believe it was, it certainly made it hard for us to chat across the table, until we realised we could just push it off to the side - lol.
